a word of wisdom: the wise farmer learns to wait patiently for the harvest. Rather than reading too much into the time of the rains in search of some tenuous eschatological sign, interpreters do much better to look to the context within James and to make a connection with the “good fruit” of heavenly wisdom from 3:17–18. The same noun, “fruit,” is used in the original in both places. The framework of James is certainly eschatological, but life until the eschaton is characterized by heavenly wisdom
